Strong Social Media and Online Presence

Another Zoom Cast with Dr. Brian Dooreck and Belinda Arimade of Practice Growth Coaching by Executive Health Coaching 🌱 | More Patients More Revenue

Today we're talking about HAVING A strong social media and online presence.

Here is the perspective as a practicing physician on the importance and relevance of having a strong social media and online presence as a healthcare professional.

Let's get right to it.

Here is what Dr. Dooreck is saying

It's healthcare. It's something everyone deals with.

"Social media is in everyone's faces, everyone's hands, and as a physician, we need to be on it."

And social media is in everyone's faces, everyone's hands, and as a physician, we need to be on it.

The question is:

  • "Where do we do it?"

  • "What platform?"

  • "What's the best platform?"

What PLATFORM is Dr. Dooreck on?

You've got TikTok, you have Snapchat, you've got LinkedIn, you've got Facebook, you've got Twitter.

The truth of it is I dabble in all of them.

"I dabble in all of them."

I mean, I think I share in a few of them and using tools like HootSuite and Buffer, for example, you can blast a post to Twitter, to Facebook, to Instagram, to LinkedIn, all at once.

So it's very easy.

The truth of the matter is, from what my business is and my practice, it's all local, it's geolocalized. No one's coming more than 10 miles to see you.

If you're a plastic surgeon or doing exotics, Botox, people will come from all over the world to see you. But from a doctor or lawyer that's doing specific business locally, it's usually the local reviews that drive it.

It's very easy.

So, yes, having a presence on Facebook is good, and having Twitter and Instagram and all these things are nice, but you've got to do the one that's most comfortable for you. I'm enjoying LinkedIn, per se, more. But it doesn't mean I don't focus on Facebook.

"You've got to do the one that's most comfortable for you."

So I think the answer is: what's comfortable for you. And then yourself, you're in the sales and the finance world more.

WHAT DOES A POTENTIAL PATIENT HAVE TO SAY?

You're on social media. You dabble in different ones. I mean, same, I'll ask the question to you. What's the platform you choose? Is there one specific that you have to be on or is it more where you're comfortable with?

I think it's a combination of what you're comfortable with and also where your ideal patient in this specific regard, or client when I'm dealing with industries outside of healthcare because at the end of the day, you'll find if you are dealing with more mature patients set, they probably aren't going to spend a lot of time on Instagram.

"I think it's a combination of what you're comfortable with and also where your ideal patient in this specific regard, or client when I'm dealing with industries outside of healthcare."

They're not going to be looking to Instagram to get that "social proof" that everyone's talking about.

But you bring up a really important point, where there's so much focus on social media when there's also that geo-local online presence, having Google reviews and things like that that will really drive feet into the practice, versus the sometimes vanity-driven metric of having a lot of followers on Instagram or Facebook, rather than LinkedIn.

What is Dr. Dooreck interested in?

And again, I'm not interested in the number of followers I have and how many likes I get, and people from Singapore or Bangladesh liking stuff. It's nice and it's fine.

I have a bigger mission on social media than just my local practice.

"I have a bigger mission on social media than just my local practice."

But in terms of practice growth and local practice growth, it is useful for me to tell patients, "Hey, follow me on social media. I'm on Facebook. I'm on Instagram. Go join me on LinkedIn," because anyone has their own flavor that they like.

HOW DO PATIENTS RESPOND?

Some people like chocolate. Some people like vanilla. Some people like strawberries. Some people don't even like ice cream.

I have plenty of patients like, "I don't view social media."

And I have plenty of patients like, "I don't view social media."

WHAT IS THE BEST PLATFORM FOR ME?

I think the point being is finding the platform that works for you the one you're comfortable with, have your feet on all of them, have your fingerprint out there.

Focus on one that you enjoy. If you are not enjoying it, then there's no point in posting.

Posting has to come from enjoying and sharing, and if you're not enjoying it, then it becomes a burden. That's not the point.

So it's me. It's my two cents on it. And just keep following what I'm doing and just message me. I could always help you with how do you post or like, or where you should go. There's no right answer. Just find your own comfort spot where you enjoy it.
